A General Description of the Influence of the Zodiacal Sign Ascending at
Time of Birth
The following delineations of the effect of Ascending Signs are for the signs
alone without any planet in the First House. If any planet be therein it will
modify these testimonies. A fortunate planet will increase the good and
diminish the adverse qualities: vice versa if the planet be malefic.
The physical descriptions denoted by the sign ascending may b e termed the
ideal, or normal, which may be expected from each sign. In actual practice,
however, it will be observed that they frequenting vary from the normal in
some respects. |

The variations are mainly due to the
effect of the sign in which is located the planet ruling the ascending sign:
whether it be in one of similar or contrary nature; the nature of the planets
strongly aspecting that significator, etc. Racial characteristics, hereditary
peculiarities, early training, environment, occupational traits, and
geographical influences, all have some effect in moulding the physiognomy.
The planets which may occupy the First House also have their share in
determining the appearance: Jupiter inclines to overweight, Saturn to
underweight; Mars inclines to develop the muscular system; the Sun’s
influence is somewhat similar to that of Mars but less florid and more
dignified; Venus denotes graceful form and pleasing appearance; Mercury, tall
to medium height, perceptive faculties prominent, restless activity; Moon,
rather plump, medium height, pale complexion; Uranus, physical peculiarities,
unusual characteristics, odd, impulsive actions; Neptune frequently indicates
some physical defect, pale or transparent complexion, something noticeable
about the eyes or mouth.
- Saturn ascending usually makes the hair, eyes and complexion darker than
otherwise indicated. If it is in adverse aspect to one of the rulers or
significator it tends to make the body shorter.
- Mars on the Ascendant operates to produce red hair or sandy moustache,
ruddy complexion and gray eyes.
- Uranus, Saturn or Mars ascending usually gives a mark or a scar about
the head or face, also on that part of the body ruled by the sign and planet
is in.
- Uranus alone in the Ascendant conduces to length of limb, slender form
and peculiar or odd expression, and usually a large nose.
- The planet ruling hour of birth also has considerable effect on the
physical and mental make-up of a native. |
